What is Hora?

Hora (होरा) is the Vedic system of planetary hours that divides each day into 24 unequal periods — 12 during daylight and 12 at night. Each period is governed by one of the seven classical planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. The first Hora of the day is always ruled by the planet that governs that weekday (Sunday = Sun, Monday = Moon, etc.), and subsequent Horas follow the Chaldean order. Because day and night durations change with the seasons and location, each Hora's length varies accordingly — making location-specific calculation essential. Choosing the right Hora for an activity aligns your effort with the corresponding planetary energy for optimal results.
